Generalized MSTB Models: Structure and kink varieties

    Get PDF
In this paper we describe the structure of a class of two-component scalar field models in a (1+1) Minkowskian space-time which generalize the well-known Montonen-Sarker-Trullinger-Bishop -hence MSTB- model. This class includes all the field models whose static field equations are equivalent to the Newton equations of two-dimensional type I Liouville mechanical systems with a discrete set of instability points. We offer a systematic procedure to characterize these models and to identify the solitary wave or kink solutions as homoclinic or heteroclinic trajectories in the analogous mechanical system. This procedure is applied to a one-parametric family of generalized MSTB models with a degree-eight polynomial as potential energy density.Comment: 46 pages, 18 figures, corrected typo

Lorentz-violating effects on topological defects generated by two real scalar fields

The influence of a Lorentz-violation on soliton solutions generated by a system of two coupled scalar fields is investigated. Lorentz violation is induced by a fixed tensor coefficient that couples the two fields. The Bogomol'nyi method is applied and first-order differential equations are obtained whose solutions minimize energy and are also solutions of the equations of motion. The analysis of the solutions in phase space shows how the stability is modified with the Lorentz violation. It is shown explicitly that the solutions preserve linear stability despite the presence of Lorentz violation. Considering Lorentz violation as a small perturbation, an analytical method is employed to yield analytical solutions.Comment: (9 pages, 11 figures

Temperature Effects in Automotive-Grade High Speed Interconnects (poster)

    Get PDF
This work discerns the frequency response (up to 15 GHz) of several automotive-grade microstrip transmission line structures over a temperature span from -40 to 105 Celsius degrees. To ensure precise measurements, S-parameter responses from several test PCBs based on Cu over FR4 substrate are attained through a vector network analyzer in a controlled environment. Results show that temperature has a major impact on these high speed interconnects in frequencies above a few GHz, setting the need of employing accurate multi-physical models

    Defect structures in sine-Gordon-like models

We investigate several models described by real scalar fields, searching for topological defects. Some models are described by a single field, and support one or two topological sectors, and others are two-field models, which support several topological sectors. Almost all the defect structures that we find are stable and finite energy solutions of first-order differential equations that solve the corresponding equations of motion. In particular, for the double sine-Gordon model we show how to find small and large BPS solutions as deformations of the BPS solution of the ϕ4\phi^4 model. And also, for most of the two field models we find the corresponding integrating factors, which lead to the complete set of BPS solutions, nicely unveiling how they bifurcate among the several topological sectors.Comment: RevTex, 18 pages, 17 figures; Version to appear in Physica

The ecclesiastical church archives in Cuba generally safeguard information sources of great antiquity, framed in the colonial period. The Catholic Church “San Pedro y San Pablo” of Corralillo custody documents dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth century, where is a part of the local and national memory. The archive lacks a study that identifi es the documentary sources that holds and the progressive deterioration to which they are subjected. The institution lacks a diagnosis of documentary conservation designed to identify the main factors affecting the documents. Are presented as objectives of the study to identify the documentary collection of Ecclesiastical Archive “San Pedro y San Pablo” of Corralillo Catholic Church and diagnose the condition of the fi le collections. Is detected a progressive deterioration in documents with high heritage value which are affected by biological, chemical, environmental and physical-mechanical factor

Setting intelligent city tiling strategies for urban shading simulations

    Get PDF
Assessing accurately the solar potential of all building surfaces in cities, including shading and multiple reflections between buildings, is essential for urban energy modelling. However, since the number of surface interactions and radiation exchanges increase exponentially with the scale of the district, innovative computational strategies are needed, some of which will be introduced in the present work. They should hold the best compromise between result accuracy and computational efficiency, i.e. computational time and memory requirements. In this study, different approaches that may be used for the computation of urban solar irradiance in large areas are presented. Two concrete urban case studies of different densities have been used to compare and evaluate three different methods: the Perez Sky model, the Simplified Radiosity Algorithm and a new scene tiling method implemented in our urban simulation platform SimStadt, used for feasible estimations on a large scale. To quantify the influence of shading, the new concept of Urban Shading Ratio has been introduced and used for this evaluation process. In high density urban areas, this index may reach 60% for facades and 25% for roofs. Tiles of 500 m width and 200 m overlap are a minimum requirement in this case to compute solar irradiance with an acceptable accuracy. In medium density areas, tiles of 300 m width and 100 m overlap meet perfectly the accuracy requirements. In addition, the solar potential for various solar energy thresholds as well as the monthly variation of the Urban Shading Ratio have been quantified for both case studies, distinguishing between roofs and facades of different orientations
